1. Garrett County COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution
This week, my husband and I were fortunate enough to receive our first dose of the COVID 19 Vaccine. Though we are not part of a scheduled group, we got the call. Here's how: several weeks ago, we called the Oakland, MD Walmart Pharmacy and asked to be put on their "waste list". This is a list of people who want to get the vaccine but don't qualify under the current guidelines. When someone cancels their scheduled appointment or a surplus of vaccines is received, the pharmacy starts calling folks from the waste list. If you can be at the pharmacy to receive your vaccine in the allotted time frame, you get your shot! Of course the second shot is time sensitive, so you get scheduled for that dose while you're at the pharmacy for round 1. In addition to the Walmart option, COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments are currently being scheduled for at the Garrett County Health Department for individuals in Phase 1A, Phase 1B (Including Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities), and Phase 1C. 2. Pre-Order Leg of Lamb at Working H Meats
A quick subject change, I know... I called today to reserve my bone-in leg of lamb from Working H Meats in Friendsville, MD for next weekends Easter Dinner! The process was easy, I called in, reserved my order, and scheduled my pick up time. Working H is only about 10 minutes outside of McHenry, MD. There are many great farms around Deep Creek Lake. Working H Meats has been a nice option for us, since we live only a few minutes away. If you're interested in grass-fed meats and other local goodies, visit their store front on Friendsville Road, just outside the Deep Creek Lake area!
3. Oakland, MD Ice Cream Stands Open for the Season
Folks in Garrett County, MD are sure enjoying this early spring weather! I read on Facebook today that 2 of my favorite ice cream stands are opening this weekend for the 2021 season! Saffitickers is a charming (and tasty) roadside ice cream stand on 219-South. If you're in or around Oakland, MD you'll be glad you stopped at this novel spot with yummy ice cream, a friendly staff, and ... ice cream! Do I really need to say more?? Saffitickers opens today! Also, one of my favorite downtown Oakland, MD spots opens for their 2021 tomorrow, Devlers Ice Cream. Devlers is located on E Oak Street, right beside the Mountain Fresh Farmers Market. The boys and I love grabbing a cone after our visits to the market in the summertime. It's a quick walk to all of the fantastic restaurants, shops, museums, and other attractions in beautiful downtown Oakland!
4. The Garrett County Pump Track
The DCL Lions Club has been working diligently to raise interest and funds for their newest project, the Garrett County Pump Track at DCL Lions Park on Bumble Bee Road in McHenry, MD. During this momentum building phase, the DCL Lions are looking for community interest and involvement, join their Facebook group to learn more. Go to Facebook and search "Garrett County Pump Track". They're also seeking donations to get a jumpstart on the project. If you can pitch-in, click HERE. Their website is full of great information about the project: DCL Lions. They're hosting a Bike Rodeo at DCL Lions Park on June 26 from noon until 2PM to continue to talk about the project. This will be a fun day complete with a scavenger hunt, arts & crafts, live music, food & drinks, and raffles to win more prizes! AND, LIVE music from the Terah Crawford Band! You know I can't get through 5 of my favorite things without talking about the real estate market in Garrett County! In the past 7 days, 27 residential listings hit the market in Garrett County, Maryland. 14 of them are still available, while the other 13 are now pending sale. In total, there are currently 76 homes on the market in all of Garrett County, 31 of them in the Deep Creek Lake area!
