Vote for Katie!
Help HART win $20,000
HART is so excited to be one of 6 animal welfare organizations selected to win up to $20,000 from Healthy Paws Pet Insurance & Foundation! These funds will be designated to "Mocha's Fund," a fund that helps injured and sick adoptable animals.
HART was nominated after sending in Katie's Story:
"Hello, my name is Katie. I am an 11-year old Springer Spaniel female. My previous owners left me at the county shelter drop-off one night, with a note that had only my name and my age. I was not in good shape. Most of my teeth were ready to fall out, I was not spayed and had multiple tumors. The next day, a young woman came and took me to a larger place. In this new place, many people touched me, held me, examined me, and gave me something that made me sleep and forget all about my pain. Well, when I woke up, it took me a while to realize that I only had 14 teeth left! Two weeks later, I had surgery to remove multiple tumors in my mammary glands. They were there because I had not been spayed. The boss in the new place offered to do something called 'fostering' so I could heal fully. My first few days were fuzzy and extremely painful! And, then, the pain began to go away... My 'foster' family, which included other dogs and other fuzzy creatures (cats), was not bad! When I began to feel better, I could hear the man say: "We are going to fall in love with her and in 2 or 3 years, we'll suffer the loss of another dog." Then, I heard the woman say: “Yes, but this is bigger than us. In my heart, I knew that there was no way I wasn't going to adopt her!"Well, that's all behind us now. The bed is a little crowded with the lady and the nice man, the little dog on the pillow, and me. But I am a Springer Spaniel mix. I need an awful lot of cuddling and this is my story!"
