Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc. (GCCAC) – Agency on Aging and Nutrition will host the Seventh Annual Garrett County Opry on Saturday,June 29th at the Garrett College Auditorium theater from 5:00pm until 9:00pm. Doors will open at 4:30pm.This community-wide event is a grand fundraiser for the Meals on Wheels program and Senior Services that brings together an exciting array of musical groups, refreshments and enjoyment.
This year M.C. Connor Norman will be your guide to musical entertainment that has been generously donated by several bands including:
Loretta Hummel and Country Grass who will be playing classic country music in the style of Kitty Wells in addition to some original songs written by Loretta Hummel like “The Wall of Backbone Mountain,” a Garrett County favorite.
Second Wind, an Opry staple for years takes up their instruments again to thrill us with a spectacular performance in remembrance of Olen Beitzel, the founding member of the group.
The Casselman Valley Travelers are from the Casselman Valley near Grantsville, Maryland and specialize in 60’s, 70’s and 80’s country music.
Rusty Halo, known as being from parts unknown, will close out the evening with a band that has been at the Opry since the beginning and will be performing with the Durst Brothers Band. Last year Garrett County Community Action Committee, Inc. – Agency on Aging and Nutrition’s Home Delivered Meals program served 42,000 nutritious meals five days a week to vulnerable elderly at an annual cost of over $363,300.00. The need is great and it couldn’t be done without fundraisers like this event. While the future Federal Funding of Meals on Wheels is in question, attendees can help to bridge the gap and continue this valuable and necessary service. Come and support this entertainment and fund raising event!
